Approximately 3,800 visitors gathered in Nuneaton’s central shopping district for an innovative project that saw over two dozen teenage participants running their own retail pitches.
Figures from the gathering indicated 3,823 people came to the town centre, with 1,247 of those individuals visiting the area for the first time.
The young businesspeople involved sold more than 446 products combined, including handcrafted accessories, items produced through 3D printing technology, cards, crocheted items, and photos.
As a result, officials from Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council revealed that a number of the adolescent stall holders have shown enthusiasm about joining the established weekly markets already operating in the area.
The event was staged by All Communities Matter CIC as part of their longstanding Indie Market scheme. Emma Clue, representing the group, stated that the Teenage Market brought fresh dynamism to Nuneaton, and it was gratifying to observe these youthful traders becoming more assured throughout the day. She added that they look forward to building upon this achievement.
Funding came from Warwickshire County Council together with the borough council and Nuneaton BID. Through its connection with The Crew, the BID arranged for local teenage musical groups to perform on a covered platform.
Julie Flower from Nuneaton BID commented that the atmosphere in the town centre on Sunday March 22 was exceptional. The teenage stall holders contributed genuine enthusiasm, and the musical acts created an energetic setting that clearly pleased those present.
She further noted that they were delighted to support an initiative that not only showcased youthful creativity but also attracted more shoppers to town centre retail establishments.
