A man from Warwick who failed to pay over £130,000 in tax has received a financial penalty from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). Salesman Jeffrey Robert James appeared on a register of businesses and individuals who did not meet their tax commitments. Robert James, residing at Hawkes Hill Close in Norton Lindsey near Warwick, owed £130,529 in unpaid taxes spanning the period April 2010 to April 2022. A fine of £66,724 was recently imposed on him. Numerous UK companies have also been penalised for non-payment of taxes owed. HM Revenue and Customs released the names of the businesses alongside the financial penalties applied. Firms based in Coventry, Birmingham and the wider West Midlands region that were discovered to be evading taxes received penalties. Those highlighted by HMRC include DKX Limited, Aces Logistics Ltd and Send Money India Limited. Astra Food Trading Ltd, previously located on Canterbury Street in Coventry, was penalised for not paying £503,569 in tax covering December 2020 to November 2023. Directors were instructed to repay £202,686. An HMRC representative stated that the department is dedicated to pursuing those who intentionally fail to pay their due taxes and ensuring fair conditions for businesses. By publishing the identities of deliberate defaulters along with their penalties, a clear signal is sent that non-compliance carries repercussions.
