20-metre phone mast plan submitted for Coventry sports ground

Published on

Plans for a 20-metre telecommunications mast at a sporting facility in Coventry have been put forward to the local authority. Coventry City Council has received the submission concerning the site on Blenheim Avenue Sports Ground along Holbrook Lane. The request seeks to establish whether outline consent is necessary for the development, with Cornerstone stating that a ‘specific requirement’ exists for a taller mast in the locality to deliver enhanced 4G and 5G coverage. The submission indicates that the current mast on Holbrook Lane lacks the structural capacity to accommodate the dimensions and weight of equipment necessary for the network improvement. Several sites across the area were assessed before the sports ground was selected as the optimal location for the 20-metre single-column structure, which would accommodate 12 aerial units, a pair of 300mm dishes, and seven outdoor equipment housings. The submission notes that engagement has taken place regarding the scheme, encompassing communication with the Civil Aviation Authority and local ward representatives. These consultation documents outline that installations such as the proposed one are essential because mobile handsets and other electronic devices depend on a network of transmission points to function. The submission is presently under review by the council’s planning team. Details of the proposal, including site layouts, are accessible on the council’s online planning portal using reference PL/2026/0000646/PAEC.
