Coventry’s Arena Shopping Park sees major changes as expansion gets underway

Marks and Spencer is pushing ahead with growth plans at Coventry’s Arena Shopping Park, which will necessitate the relocation of another retailer. Reports indicate the department store chain is seeking to enlarge its Food Hall section at the complex adjacent to the CBS Arena. Should the expansion proposal receive approval, the M&S operation would take over premises currently occupied by Just for Pets. Consequently, Just for Pets will relocate to an empty unit nearby that formerly housed Fabb Furniture.

The planning submission for the M&S development states the extension would allow the retailer to more effectively serve its established customer base at the shopping park. The enlarged outlet would continue to work alongside the existing city centre location at The Precinct, which will remain operational after the expanded store opens. The scheme is intended to ensure Marks and Spencer’s continued presence at the site for years to come.

Alongside the Food Hall enlargement, the proposals include expanding the types of merchandise permitted, enabling a broader selection of non-food products and the installation of further shopping trolley facilities. Council planning officials are presently reviewing the submission. The application is accessible on the local authority’s website by looking in the planning register under reference PL/2026/0000474/RVC. A verdict on whether the scheme proceeds is anticipated prior to mid-July.
