A fresh proposal for elderly housing has been unveiled for a site close to a well-known beauty spot. The scheme involves constructing 24 self-contained apartments designed for older people on land next to Hartshill Care Home along Oldbury Road, with Hartshill Hayes situated nearby.
The application, put forward to North Warwickshire Borough Council, indicates these dwellings target senior citizens but function differently from a traditional care facility. The plans state that while not classified as a care home, the apartments would suit elderly individuals who may soon need more comprehensive support. The submission notes that occupants will probably experience reduced mobility and spend much of their time within their accommodation, making thoughtful design of the living spaces particularly important.
According to the proposal, the structure maintains a deliberately compact layout. Since the development targets those with current or impending mobility restrictions, it has been designed to be easily navigable on foot. The proximity to the existing care home enables residents to access support services from current staff members whenever necessary, helping them maintain autonomy and self-respect for as long as possible. Bedrooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows specifically intended to offer outdoor views even for those confined to bed. Generous natural light would illuminate these expansive window areas, creating a comfortable environment for residents to relax and contemplate. The building’s orientation follows the established building line along the site’s northern boundary, sweeping around the corner in an aesthetically pleasing manner.
The submission describes the placement beside the established care home as offering an excellent chance to deliver these close-care dwellings, available as one-bedroom units with a limited selection of two-bedroom options for those wishing to have space for visitors or hobbies.
The council’s planning officers are currently reviewing the application.
