Loose Women returned to our screens on Monday (April 27) following a prolonged absence caused by ITV’s cost-cutting measures last year, and the panellists were quick to share some heartwarming news about Christine Lampard moments after the programme aired. Christine teamed up with Coleen Nolan, Nadia Sawalha and Jane Moore to tackle the day’s conversation topics. Before launching into the main discussion, however, Coleen took a moment to mark a special event for her colleague. Coleen told Christine that they needed to recognise what had been an incredibly significant week regarding her spouse.
Over the weekend, the presenter had celebrated with her husband Frank after his football club Coventry City secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years. According to the Express, Christine explained that from a footballing standpoint, anyone who follows the sport would appreciate what that weekend represented. Coventry clinched promotion to the Premier League by winning their league and finishing at the summit of the standings. She noted that the team had been languishing in 17th position when Frank took charge. Christine described it as a truly magnificent day, praising the excellent coaching staff who are all close friends, the group of talented young players, and the presence of all their partners, wives and children. She added that those working behind the scenes who rarely receive recognition were also there sharing in this extraordinary moment. Christine emphasised that it was a major accomplishment.
The programme then showed footage of Frank paying tribute to Christine at the EFL Awards earlier this month. While collecting his Championship Manager of the Season accolade, Frank said he considered himself fortunate at this stage to have achieved a life balance that mattered greatly to him, allowing him to return home to his wife who supports him and provides everything he needs. He described her as his best friend, insisting he meant it genuinely and acknowledging how lucky he felt. He pointed out that she maintains her own career, so he believes she genuinely understands his situation.
Back in the ITV studio, Christine noted that Frank might have consumed a couple of drinks beforehand to settle his nerves during his speech. She described it as yet another tremendous honour. She explained that it had been a beautiful moment and credited him for not simply rambling on without purpose or calling her up onto the stage unprompted. She clarified that he was asked specifically about what family life involves within the football world, and that the question extended beyond just her to all the partners and everyone at home. She noted that there are no Christmases, no weekends, no Bank Holidays, and suggested that anyone who works shifts would understand that reality. Coleen joked that while she knew Christine finds public attention embarrassing and uncomfortable, had she been present or watching live and Frank had failed to mention her, she would have struggled to remain his friend. Jane wrapped up by saying it was an acknowledgment of all the commitment involved, and that with a family to consider, Frank would be unable to perform at his level without backup and support at home, something she felt many people overlook. Loose Women airs on weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 12.30pm.
