Coventry set for tourism boost after being named top trending staycation destination

Published on

Coventry has received an unexpected tourism boost after being named a trending UK staycation destination by travel site TripAdvisor. Coventry came sixth in the list, which was topped by Grasmere in Cumbria and included only a handful of cities, including Belfast, Nottingham and Glasgow. It’s just another sign that Coventry is on the up when it comes to tourism, after the city was named one of Europe’s best cities earlier this year . Alongside Coventry City’s promotion to the premiership, alongside Monday’s parade and event in War Memorial Park, 2026 is shaping up to be a great year for Coventry. It follows Coventry being recognised as a ‘safe’ night out for the first time earlier this year as the city was awarded Purple Flag status for the first time. This means it offers not only a safe night out, but one that’s enjoyable and entertaining too. Coventry city centre , Earlsdon High Street and the Kasbah in Primrose Hill all received the recognition. The Tripadvisor Summer Travel Index looks at destinations that are trending among British travellers this summer and reveals the fastest growing destinations based on year-on-year growth. There’s also a list of European trending destinations, which includes Alicante, Alvor, Playa de Palma, Malaga and Ksamil in Albania. The city’s entry on the travel website states: “Coventry is symbolized by the ruins of its cathedral, which was heavily bombed—along with the rest of the city—during World War II. While the Midlands metropolis is a convenient gateway to Stratford-upon-Avon , those who hang around discover a town in the midst of a financial and cultural resurgence.” Under things to do, attractions such as Coventry Cathedral , St Mary’s Guildhall, Belgrade Theatre, Coventry Charterhouse, Lady Godiva Statue and Holy Trinity Church are listed. The Telegraph Hotel, Old Hall in Coventry and local Premier Inns and Travelodges are listed as among the best places to stay. And food and drink listings include The Old Crown, The Phoenix, Slug & Lettuce, Gourmet Food Kitchen, Earlsdon Supper Club and Aqua Food and Mood.
