A 50-year-old man has been sentenced to prison after admitting to supplying cocaine in Rugby.

Marius Chioibasu had been operating out of his vehicle to distribute the class A drug throughout the town. Officers from Rugby detained him earlier in the year, and following his court appearance this week, he was handed a 16-month jail term.

A spokesperson for Rugby Police confirmed that a man who admitted supplying cocaine received a 16-month sentence. In March, officers from the Serious Organised Crime unit apprehended Marius Chioibasu after observing him conducting suspected drug transactions throughout the town while operating his car.

He faced charges of possession with intent to supply a class A controlled substance, namely cocaine, along with acquiring, using, and possessing criminal property. The defendant entered a guilty plea during an earlier court hearing and on Tuesday was sentenced to custody.

Detective Constable Matthew Rapkins stated that Chioibasu was a recognised drugs supplier and that authorities were pleased he would be incarcerated. He explained that officers understood the harm caused by drugs and expressed hope that the sentence would provide reassurance to the community that efforts would continue to disrupt illegal activity and pursue those responsible.
