With a third heat wave this summer that has seen Coventry reach temperatures over 30C, we’ve all been looking for a way to stay cool.
But sadly, it’s been so hot that a hand held fan and a tip top just aren’t cutting it. This has led many people to turn to air conditioning units.
While air con is something we might associate with hotter climes, posh office buildings or hotels, people are increasingly getting units for their homes.
We spoke with Craig Lilley of Coventry Cooling who told us requests are so high it is leading to shortages.
“There has been a massive demand, and it seems like there is more and more each year,” Craig told Coventry Live. “It’s incredible, really. There has been so much demand there is even a stock shortage – the wholesalers are running out of what is needed.
“When it gets to these kind of temperatures, over 30 degrees, people are going into their homes and it’s uncomfortable, it makes everything difficult, even sleeping is a challenge.
“Then when you get someone who experiences somewhere with air conditioning, they can’t believe the difference.”

Once upon a time red weather warnings and temperatures approaching the mid to high 30s were a much rarer occurrence in the UK. But now, amid the ongoing global warming crisis, the measures we will go to in order to stay cool are changing.
“Because these kind of temperatures are getting more and more common every year, people are seeing air conditioning as the way forward,” Craig added. “We’ve been fully booked out.”
Have you made the change to air con yet or are you sticking with more traditional cooling methods? Let us know in the comments.
