A comedian left studio viewers stunned after making controversial remarks about Coventry during a recent broadcast.
The West Midlands city found itself at the centre of controversy on the new game show Unacceptable, where the atmosphere turned uncomfortable following one performer’s cutting observation.
The incident occurred on the rapid-fire comedy panel programme fronted by award-winning comedian, writer and podcaster Ed Gamble. Echoing BBC’s Would I Lie To You?, the format pits comedians against each other as they try to convince the audience that their most outlandish opinions should be embraced.
During this particular instalment, team captains Joanne McNally and Richard Ayoade were joined by panellists Maisie Adam, Guz Khan, Chris McCausland and Geoff Norcott.
During the Stitch Up Round, Guz received a card stating his belief that Coventry is the worst place in Britain.

When the audience responded unfavourably, presenter Ed expressed surprise at this comment, noting that Guz himself is from Coventry.
Guz acknowledged this awkwardness, admitting it was not a great thing to say while still living there. This slip presented his rivals with a chance to expose him. Richard questioned whether his issue was with the people or with someone named Terry Hall.
Meanwhile, Geoff chimed in by asking whether it was the architecture or the sense of desperation.

The new TLC series also features numerous comedians contributing to discussions throughout the run, including Alex Brooker, Lou Sanders, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, Sarah Keyworth, Fatiha El-Ghorri, Rhys James, Suzi Ruffell, Harriet Kemsley, Lucy Beaumont, Ivo Graham, Jessica Knappett, Roisin Conaty, Sophie Willan, Catherine Bohart and Vittorio Angelone.
As well as competing to win over a live studio audience in each edition by defending deliberately provocative stances, audience members cast votes before and after each debate, with a live swingometer displaying precisely how many opinions have shifted. Success goes to the side achieving the greatest change in public sentiment.

Among the daring assertions examined are Romesh Ranganathan’s claim that the Royal Family deserves increased funding, Katherine Ryan arguing that all males should undergo vasectomies at birth, Ivo Graham contending that privately educated youngsters merit state assistance, and Maisie Adam maintaining that artificial intelligence should govern the planet.
Unacceptable airs on Sundays at 9pm on TLC. It forms part of an expanded TLC lineup now accessible free-to-air throughout the UK.
