Final Nuneaton town centre shops demolition plan after months of delays

Published on

The final demolition plan for a row of shops in Nuneaton town centre has been revealed

It is contained within a planning application for the Bridge Street area.

Approval is needed before the long-delayed works to bring down some of the buildings can start.

As well as this, it will see the creation of a new car park – on what is currently a service yard behind the row of shops.

The demolition works were due to start last October but the Bridge to Living project has been repeatedly delayed.

But the green hoarding has remained in place for months as the project stalled.

However, once the final planning permission has been granted, the works will be able to start.

Latest council cabinet papers have indicated it could be August.

According to the application, there will be a second line of fencing placed around the demolition zone and this will include parts of the pavement.

“The Heras fencing will be set up to the Bridge Street and Church Street elevations immediately prior to the main demolition along that elevation,” the proposal reads.

“The secondary fence line will block off vehicular and pedestrian access to Bridge Street and Church Street throughout demolition with alternative routes established.”

The application is now being considered by planning officers at the Town Hall and more details can be found by visiting the council’s website and searching in the planning applications section for reference 41769.
