Plans approved for new Coventry soft play centre in former digital art gallery

Published on

Plans to turn a former Coventry art gallery into a soft play centre have been approved. Visitors will have access to play areas and an on-site café at the new facility on Corporation Street.

The Reel Store inside the Telegraph Hotel will be taken over by Playdate @ Bambinos. It will offer indoor activities for kids, café facilities for adults and pre-booked party sessions.

Children can enjoy a climbing frame, a mini carousel and role-play houses. Other features will include a sensory play area, a party room and a dedicated area for under-2s.

Playdate @ Bambinos is set to open from 9am to 7pm, Monday to Sunday. Plans show that the new facility will create eight new jobs.

As previously reported by CoventryLive, the building has stood empty since May 2023. It previously housed the Reel Store, the first permanent immersive digital art gallery in the UK.

Opened as part of Coventry being named UK City of Culture, the gallery showcased 360-degree digital exhibitions using projection mapping and AI. Works featured included Machine Memoirs: Space by Refik Anadol and the Life and Work of Frida Kahlo.
