Photos obtained by Coventry Live reveal a freshly-established restaurant is prepared for its launch after sitting vacant for an extended period.
The American fried chicken brand Popeyes will inaugurate a fresh establishment in Coventry’s downtown area on Friday, July 24. Situated on Broadgate, the launch injects new energy into the premises that previously housed TopShop, which unfortunately shut down when the pandemic struck.
Left to deteriorate, the space had become something of an urban eyesore for several years, and the orange and white branding of Popeyes provides a welcome visual transformation to the busy corner.
This marks the second Popeyes location in the city following the first outlet’s opening at the Arena Shopping Park last year.
The inaugural store’s launch in December gained significant traction across social media, with photographs and footage showing lines winding around the shopping centre.
The chicken chain’s leadership will likely be aiming to replicate that success with this new centrally-placed venue.
The upcoming launch presents numerous chances to obtain complimentary food and merchandise.
Depending on terms and conditions, the first three individuals in the queue on opening day will be entitled to three chicken sandwiches weekly for an entire year. The first 50 people waiting will receive complimentary branded goods, and the first 100 will each receive a chicken sandwich. The queue commences at 9am.
Tom Crowley, Popeyes UK Chief Executive, stated that since launching their first restaurant in Coventry, the response had been extraordinary, and they were keen to establish another right in the city centre.
He added that they anticipated another strong showing on opening day with the characteristic great atmosphere, music, and southern hospitality the brand is recognised for, and they were eager to welcome customers.
Established in New Orleans in 1972, Popeyes has grown into one of the world’s largest chicken restaurant groups, with more than 4,000 locations worldwide.
Since arriving in the UK in 2021, Popeyes has launched over 100 branches, with 45 of those in 2025 alone, providing work for over 3,500 individuals.
The latest venue brings 53 fresh employment opportunities to the local area. The plans incorporate indoor seating, self-service ordering stations, and collection points.
