Kevin Keegan’s name is known across the footballing world but it is a little known fact he shone as a schoolboy in Nuneaton.
The legendary former footballer and manager has sadly passed away, aged 75.
The former England player and manager had been battling cancer.
Tributes have poured in from across the globe for the man who was revered throughout his career, including as a former England player and manager.
His early days in football were helped shape in a town far away from his home in Cantley, near Doncaster.
In 1967, a teenage Kevin played for Nuneaton Boys Club during school holidays while visiting his uncle, who lived in the Stockingford area of town.
It was during this time that he tried out for Coventry City FC but Jimmy Hill famously rejected the star because he was deemed too small.
While he never made it to play for the Sky Blues, the Nuneaton Boys Club, which went on to become the Nuneaton Club 4 Young People, proudly lists him on its website as among ‘their most famous alumni’.
Only a few months ago, the Newcastle United legend said he was battling stage four stomach cancer and it has now been confirmed that he sadly passed away surrounded by his family.
