Eight artificial beaches around Coventry for summer 2026 – some with splash pools

Published on

Those living in Coventry, a city with no coastline, might find it challenging to reach the seaside when temperatures climb. However, the city boasts numerous man-made beach destinations within a short journey.

Most of these sandy retreats charge no admission and often include fairgrounds and entertainment suitable for families during the school holidays. Some also feature paddling pools or lakes where children can cool off while playing and socialising. Visitors are encouraged to check operating hours in advance to avoid disappointment, according to Birmingham Live.

Birmingham Beach

This attraction has moved to a new location for 2026. Having previously operated at Smithfield and later Pype Hayes Park, it now occupies Digbeth High Street. The event runs from Friday 17th July through to Bank Holiday Monday on 31st August, opening daily from 1pm with late-night operating hours. Visitors will discover an extensive sandy area with deckchairs and beach huts, multiple amusement rides, and stalls selling candy floss and doughnuts. Parking facilities can be found in Digbeth, while the venue lies just a short walk from New Street and Moor Street railway stations. Admission is complimentary, though amusement rides require payment.

Northfield Beach

This popular event makes its return for summer 2026. Organised by the Northfield Community Partnership, the celebration takes place from 23rd to 26th July 2026 at Victoria Common on Church Road. With no entry fee, families can enjoy four days of activities including arts and crafts, live music performances, shows, and entertainment appropriate for all ages. The common area includes a playground, outdoor gym facilities, a football pitch and open grass suitable for recreational games and outdoor dining.

Touchwood Summer Sessions

Solihull’s Touchwood Shopping Centre continues its well-established beach event this summer, with completely free admission. The Touchwood Summer Sessions commence when schools finish on Saturday 18th July and operate daily until Monday 31st August. A variety of complimentary activities run throughout the holiday period, featuring a K-Pop celebration, bubble entertainment performances, drama sessions for toddlers, a Jamaya BBQ event and beach-inspired arts and crafts workshops.

New Square Beach in West Bromwich

The New Square Shopping Centre brings back its artificial beach, and for 2026 introduces complimentary crazy golf and Toy Story themed entertainment. The West Bromwich beach opens on Monday 20th July and continues until Sunday 30th August 2026. Complimentary face painting takes place every Wednesday between 11am and 4pm, with a special Buzz and Friends occasion scheduled for 11th August and crazy golf on 28th August. Entry requires no payment, while fairground attractions carry a small fee that includes a contribution to the centre’s charitable partner, the West Bromwich Albion Foundation, which supports families experiencing hardship in the local area.

Farmarama

While this beach attraction does charge admission, its impressive scope merits inclusion. Farmarama makes its return to the National Forest Adventure Farm in Tatenhill, Burton. Guests can explore a sandy beach area double the size of the previous year, featuring over 400 tonnes of golden sand alongside five substantial paddling pools. Operating from Saturday 18th July until Saturday 1st September, visitors can utilise deckchairs, purchase ice cream, participate in foam parties, engage in craft workshops and enjoy seaside entertainment shows. Families can benefit from a £2.50 reduction on standard admission prices through the Government’s Great British Summer Savings initiative, while those visiting prior to Sunday 23rd August receive a complimentary return ticket valid throughout the summer season.

Nottingham Beach

Situated somewhat further away but worthy of a day excursion, Nottingham hosts its beloved summer beach attraction. Running from 15th July to 31st August in Old Market Square in the city centre, this destination offers considerably more than sand alone. Visitors can also enjoy live musical performances, DJ sets, evening film screenings, salsa dancing sessions and volleyball, creating an ideal outing for families. Best of all, no admission charge applies.

Lakeside Beaches

Two additional beach options exist within convenient reach of Coventry, eliminating the need for lengthy coastal journeys. These include Rutland Water Beach in Leicestershire and the Cotswold Country Park and Beach in Gloucestershire. Both locations offer complimentary admission, with only parking fees applicable.
