Coventry City have apparently reached out to Chelsea to inquire about left-sided attacker Mykhailo Mudryk, whose position at Stamford Bridge looks far from certain.
The 25-year-old already has history with Frank Lampard, having featured eight times during the manager’s second spell in charge of the London club, though the player has not featured since November 2024 after testing positive for meldonium in October of that year – a substance banned since 2016.
The Ukrainian international, with 28 appearances and three goals for his nation, has been cleared to resume his football career after the Football Association and World Anti-Doping Agency concluded their disciplinary proceedings following an appeal, bringing his four-year suspension to an early end.
The player moved to Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in 2023 on an eight-and-a-half-year deal for a reported £62million and is currently with Xabi Alonso’s group in Hong Kong for their pre-season preparations.
According to The Sun, while Alonso has expressed excitement about the prospect of working with Mudryk, describing him as a special player, no definitive choice has been reached regarding whether the attacker will remain at the club.
The account suggests Coventry are among the sides to have demonstrated interest, alongside two additional top-flight teams understood to have made enquiries, with three more European clubs also expressing curiosity.
Mudryk has been undertaking solo training sessions away from Chelsea’s main group since December 2024. He has consistently insisted he never intentionally consumed the substance, which is known to boost athletic endurance.
Amendments to WADA’s screening procedures indicate that had Mudryk’s 2024 sample been analysed under current protocols it would not have been flagged as a violation.
The report adds that both Chelsea and Alonso are content to grant Mudryk adequate time to reintegrate with his teammates before arriving at any conclusion, with the understanding that all possibilities – remaining with the squad, a temporary move, or a permanent departure – remain open following his comeback, with no urgency to finalise arrangements.
