Free Window Cleaning Available for These Warwickshire Communities

People residing in North Warwickshire who have been dealing with dirt and dust from HS2 construction will now receive complimentary window cleaning services.

In the past, only 37 households in Water Orton and Coleshill could access a subsidised scheme for vehicle and window cleaning.

This number has now increased to 175 following efforts by the local MP to secure broader coverage.

Rachel Taylor, who represents North Warwickshire and Bedworth, believes those living near the construction site have endured the effects of dust and grime for far too long and that greater assistance should be provided to help them manage the situation.

She expressed her pleasure at having achieved this substantial enlargement of the HS2 subsidised cleaning initiative, meaning more than 130 additional families would receive the compensation they were entitled to. She stated that residents closest to the HS2 works had long suffered from dust and grime originating from the nearby building operations. When local residents informed her that the current cleaning programme covered merely 37 properties, she delivered this feedback personally to HS2’s Chief Executive and compelled him to take action.

However, she emphasised that considerably more work remains. She intends to persist in holding HS2 responsible for the disruption, inadequate communication, and unjust treatment experienced by her constituents in Coleshill and Water Orton.

In 2025, the MP arranged for HS2 Chief Executive Mark Wild to visit Water Orton’s Spud Club to hear directly from local residents about how HS2 was affecting their lives. Throughout the discussion, residents expressed that the existing cleaning scheme failed to address the extent of damage dust was causing to their homes and cars.

Starting this month, HS2 has consented to extend eligibility to incorporate additional residences on Gilson Drive and the southern side of Vicarage Lane in Water Orton, as well as homes located along the A446 in Coleshill.
