More than a dozen drivers caught in Nuneaton and Bedworth day-long sting

More than a dozen drivers caught during a day-long sting across Nuneaton and Bedworth.

Officers from Warwickshire Police’s Operational Patrol Unit (OPU) were behind the action across the borough on Sunday (July 26).

They were on the hunt for dangerous drivers as part of the national ‘Operation Spotlight’, launched as July sees the highest number of people killed or seriously injured on UK roads

OPU officers say that the operation focused on what known as the ‘fatal four’ – driving under the influence of drink or drugs, using mobile phone, speeding and not wearing a seatbelt – as well as road safety.

During the day, the team stopped more than a dozen drivers for a number of offences including eye sight failure as well as four vehicles being seized.

The full list of results were:

Two drivers for excess speed

Two drivers for no test certificate

Three drivers for driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence

Three vehicles seized for having no licence or insurance

One driver caught for eye sight failure

One clone vehicle seized

Two drivers given words of advice

Operation Spotlight has run throughout July and, in Warwickshire, has seen teams carry out roadside stops and use mobile speed cameras.
