Met Office gives new rain verdict as Coventry has one of driest Julys ever

Published on

Rain is set to be on the way to Coventry and Warwickshire – but the Met Office says it will not stay for long.

Coventry is experiencing one of its driest Julys ever. Bablake Weather Station, an independent Met Office climatological station just outside the city centre, has reported 20 days without rain this month – the last time that happened was in 1928.

The Met Office said that by the weekend there may be some rain but the long range forecast predicts more dry weather.

Greg Wolverson , a Met Office deputy chief forecaster, said: “Fresher conditions will prevail from Sunday onwards, but temperatures will remain around average for the time of year.”

The Met Office said during next next week Atlantic-dominated weather fronts would push in from the west bringing some rain, but in between there would be brighter spells, which in the July sunshine should elevate temperatures to the mid 20s.

Mr Wolverson said: “Although there is a return to rain in the forecast, we have just come out of an exceptionally dry spell and the forecast rain is unlikely to be widespread or substantial.

“Many areas are likely to continue experiencing prevailing dry conditions for the foreseeable future, especially in southern England.”
