Plans for the redevelopment of Coventry Airport have moved forward following approval. According to CoventryLive, councillors from Warwick District Council were requested to sanction the latest scheme for the extensive GreenPower Park development in Baginton. They were asked to give backing to the building specifications for the location, which will feature a new gigafactory. This approval came despite several objections, including a call to ‘reconsider’ the entire project. However, during Wednesday’s gathering, seven manufacturing units on the premises received endorsement. The structures will vary in scale from 69,000 square feet to 1.5 million square feet, with a combined area of 4.8 million square feet. The development will incorporate a substantial battery production plant. GreenPower Park represents a collaboration between Coventry City Council and Rigby Group, with the objective of establishing a hub for battery innovation, modern manufacturing and renewable energy, offering prospects for approximately 6,000 employment positions. A sum of £23 million was obtained from the West Midlands Combined Authority to initiate what officials are labelling a significant Investment Zone. Nevertheless, worries have been voiced that no companies have yet committed to operating the battery plant or other components of the scheme, though the local authority disclosed that four businesses were ‘examining opportunities’ regarding the location.
