Oasis frontman labels Coventry man crazy over music industry claim

A Coventry music enthusiast has been branded cuckoo by one of the nation’s most celebrated rock musicians.

Singer Liam Gallagher took issue with a message posted on X, previously Twitter, by local resident David Collins, who expressed his view that The Libertines could have achieved greater success than Oasis.

The Oasis frontman noticed the comment even though he had not been mentioned, and aired his reaction. An amused David seized the chance to invite the performer for a beverage, an offer Liam rejected before hurling further insults.

Following some drinks on Friday evening, David had written that he said it sober and he said it after a few pints, that if Pete Doherty and Carl Barat were clean, the libertines are bigger than Oasis. He added that for him, he could live until he was 800 and nothing tops The Smiths, and that The Libertines are very, very close.

David, who counts himself as a devoted Oasis supporter and even attended the group’s reunion concerts last summer, went about his day. He thought nothing more of it until the following morning when Liam, possessing almost four million followers, replied with simply CUCKOO.

Seeing a chance, David inquired whether Liam would fancy a pint.

The singer replied that he would not join him, calling him a lunatic and suggesting he would have him listening to all sorts of snizzle.

Yet for David, being insulted by one of the world’s most recognised rock stars poses no problem whatsoever.

He said he did not even tag him but that he had never been so happy to be abused by someone he paid £150 to see last year, adding with amusement that Liam was a legend.
