Indian restaurant at century-old former Coventry pub suddenly closes

Published on

An Indian restaurant operating from a former Coventry public house has suddenly shut its doors.

The establishment on Barker Butts Lane, previously known as The Lion’s Inn, had spent the past eight years establishing itself as a destination for sit-down and collection orders of subcontinental fare.

Management posted on social media that the Coundon site was no longer accepting reservations.

A spokesperson stated that the Lion’s Inn chapter had concluded and expressed gratitude for the unwavering backing received throughout the eight-year period.

They directed patrons to their affiliated establishments: Sonargaon on Daventry Road in Cheylesmore and Le Raj Spice situated at Abbey End in Kenilworth.

The statement included thanks to all valued guests for their custom, fidelity and cherished moments shared over the years.

The Cedars Pub

The motivation behind the shutdown remains unclear. Requests for additional details have been made to the business.

Since launching in 2018, the restaurant had cultivated standing in the locality, amassing a 4.3-star rating on Google from numerous reviewers.

The closure aligns with the centenary of the property’s original opening as a drinking establishment called The Cedars. That venue served local residents before its closure following a difficult period culminating in 2017.
