Anger as foul ‘cesspit’ smell continues to waft around Nuneaton park

Published on

Anger is growing as a foul ‘cesspit’ smell continues to waft around a Nuneaton park.

CoventryLive reported issues around a stench at Tomkinson Road recreation ground three weeks ago.

A dog walker, who did not want to be named, said it was so pungent they had been forced to change the route they walked their dog.

They claimed the smell was coming from a pool of water which had appeared in the park and the smell was wafting into Vernons Lane and Beaumont Road.

At the time, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council said the issue was on county council-owned land on the park.

Now it has emerged water firm Severn Trent is involved but the problem has still not been resolved and the smell continues to linger.

Severn Trent said: “Our teams carried out work to remove a blockage on a disused sewer that runs underneath Tomkinson Road recreation ground.

“Following further reports provided to us today, we’ll be revisiting the area this week to ensure any issues are resolved.”
