A new tram stop and passenger platform plan for Coventry’s huge Very Light Rail has been revealed.
It forms part of a new planning application submitted to the city council and are key to the proposals for £189m Coventry Very Light Rail (CVLR) project.
The application asks for the go-ahead for the erection of temporary stabling/depot structure, two welfare and operations cabins, two temporary passenger platforms on Coventry University land in Mile Lane and the installation of approximately 87m of very light rail tram track.
This is part of the Coventry Very Light Rail City Centre Demonstrator Line, which is hoped to be up and running by October 2027.
“Testing and commissioning would then take place along the route,” part of the application explains.
“The system would then operate for limited public demonstrations and testing in a few week blocks throughout 2027 – 29.
“Passenger use would be by advance booking only.”
Mile Lane Tram stop details
The application adds: “Passengers would board at a tram stop on Park Road (by Coventry Train Station) with an option to board/ alight at an on-street Mile Lane passenger platform to access the University Technology Centre before continuing to the university terminus, located within Coventry University’s Mile Lane car park.
“Whilst passengers would be able to disembark at the terminus for information, they would not be able to leave the compound and would re-board to return to Park Road.”

Planning officers are currently considering the application. It can be found on the council’s website by searching the planning section for reference PL/2026/0001067/FUL,
This is ahead of a decision being made on the proposal.
