A financial milestone was reached as Coventry’s visitor economy generated more than one billion pounds during 2025, according to latest figures compiled using an industry-standard measurement tool.

The city welcomed 12.6 million guests throughout the year, representing a 6.5 percent rise from the previous twelve months.

Analysis using the Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Model revealed the total contribution reached £1.009 billion, marking a 9.3 percent increase and a doubling of economic returns since 2016.

The tourism sector also supported 8,330 full-time positions, with employment levels climbing 2.6 percent year-on-year and extending a period of consistent job creation.

A series of high-profile performances, including shows by Tom Grennan, Bob Dylan and Ed Sheeran, alongside the Kabaddi World Cup and rising attendances at Coventry City fixtures, all contributed to the upward trajectory.

The conference and events industry similarly showed marked improvement, with numerous venues reporting revenue and delegate growth throughout the period.

Paul McMahon, the managing director of Destination Coventry, which serves as the city’s destination management organisation, described the achievement as a defining moment for the local visitor economy.

The organisation highlighted that sustained effort across multiple sectors had driven this outcome rather than any single factor.

Representatives noted that the trajectory demonstrated genuine strength in Coventry’s tourism offering and reflected growing appeal among domestic and international visitors.

According to Paul McMahon, the momentum now established presents an opportunity to attract additional guests, extend the duration of visits and generate increased expenditure within local businesses.

The official indicated that Coventry’s enhanced presence on the national stage, combined with a programme of significant events, positioned the city well for continued expansion in visitor numbers and economic contribution.

The accommodation sector showed particularly robust development in certain categories.

Visitor numbers at non-serviced options rose by 14.3 percent to reach 229,000, producing £80 million in economic value.

Hotel accommodation generated £177 million across the same period.

Expenditure patterns revealed that dining establishments accounted for 33 percent of total visitor spending, with retail purchases representing 29 percent.

Leisure activities comprised 11 percent of all expenditure.

Paul Michael, chair of Destination Coventry, indicated that comparative data showed strong performance across nearly all key indicators when measured against the wider regional picture.

The organisation noted that forthcoming elevation of Coventry’s football club to the Premier League would likely generate additional national attention and increased visitor interest in the area.

According to Paul Michael, the results illustrated both the progress achieved to date and the potential for further development, particularly regarding overnight stays and accommodation capacity to meet anticipated demand.

Continued partnership across the sector would be essential to translate heightened visibility into lasting economic advantage.

Lynnette Kelly, the cabinet member responsible for employment, regeneration and climate change, observed that the data confirmed the significance of tourism to Coventry’s commercial fabric, employment levels and local communities.

The official stated that reaching this threshold reflected the breadth of attractions, events, hospitality and cultural provision available throughout the city.

Continued expansion in tourism-related positions was viewed as particularly positive, indicating that economic advantages extended beyond headline financial measurements.

Looking forward, officials indicated that Coventry possessed genuine potential to build upon current achievements, developing further as an attractive destination while creating additional opportunities for businesses and residents to benefit from projected growth in visitor numbers.
