The transformation of what was formerly the Abbey Street car park and the old New Century Way retail units has been progressing for three years.
Construction on the Grayson Place scheme in Nuneaton’s central area commenced in 2023, with the development constructed on the site previously occupied by the Abbey Street parking facility, the former New Century Way stores and much of the former Co-op department store building.
The first phase of this multi-million pound initiative involved the construction of the Hampton-by-Hilton hotel, which welcomed its first guests in September 2024.
The second phase commenced after that, and agreements have now been finalised for an indoor Padel tennis facility within the large grey structure, which had initially been intended as a cinema.
The food hall with its glass facade has been finished but remains unequipped as the local authority has not yet announced any tenants. A spokesperson indicated that discussions with a principal tenant were underway.
The new digital innovation centre for North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College is approaching completion, though the educational institution and the council have not yet formalised an agreement.
The new public space, which will eventually host community events alongside seating areas, is also rising from the ground.
Journalists were granted access to the enclosed construction zone and have published photographs showing the current state of the development.
