A restaurant serving American cuisine in Coventry has been ordered to implement significant changes after being awarded the lowest possible hygiene score. Investigators uncovered multiple concerns at the establishment located in Earlsdon.
Environmental health officers attended the venue on Earlsdon Street during February. Significant remedial action was deemed necessary.
Problems were noted regarding sanitary food preparation practices. The methods used for cooking, warming up leftovers, cooling down dishes, and storing ingredients all needed enhancement, according to the local authority.
Sanitary conditions also fell short of acceptable levels. Examiners discovered complications with the premises and its infrastructure that impacted proper food safety procedures.
Significant shortcomings were discovered in how food safety was overseen, the council reported. The protocols implemented to guarantee that food offered for sale or service was safe for consumption required enhancement.
Personnel were additionally found to lack adequate food safety expertise. Questions persisted about whether sanitary conditions would be sustained in the future.
A council representative explained that every establishment selling food within the city undergoes assessment by the local authority. Venues are evaluated according to risk and assigned a rating through the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, enabling patrons to make educated decisions regarding their dining choices.
Following the evaluation carried out on February 2, which revealed standards of food hygiene that needed considerable work, Bun and Steak was awarded a rating of 1, indicating substantial improvement was required. The council has maintained engagement with the business to ensure legal requirements are fulfilled, enhancements are implemented, and the establishment meets safety standards.
Although venues can make changes after the assessment, these do not automatically update the hygiene rating, though Bun and Steak may submit a request for reassessment. Should the business choose not to seek a reassessment, the score will be examined and revised during the subsequent scheduled visit.
