Frank Lampard has made three changes to his Coventry City side to face Derby County on a night when he welcomes Jack Rudoni and Haji Wright back to his match night squad.
The two players, however, are on the bench after returning to training on Wednesday from calf and groin injuries, respectively. Elsewhere, Brandon Thomas-Asante (hamstring) isn’t included despite also training this week while Ephron Mason-Clark – one of two long-haul internationals who travelled back from duty with Jamaica in Mexico on Thursday – is also on the bench but compatriot and defender, Joel Latibeaudiere, is rested against the Rams.
That means Liam Kitching comes in to the heart of the back four in his place, deployed alongside Bobby Thomas, while Milan van Ewijk continues at right-back and Jay Dasilva again operates at left-back despite having played two games for Wales over the international break.
Carl Rushworth is in goal and the good news is that Frank Onyeka, who has been away with Nigeria, continues alongside Matt Grimes in midfield in Lampard’s favoured 4-2-3-1 formation.
Tatsuhiro Sakamoto is again deployed on the right wing while Romain Esse, who scored for England Under-21s in midweek, comes in for Mason-Clark on the left flank. That leaves Josh Eccles as the third change, the home-grown midfielder coming in to replace Thomas-Asante in the number ten role behind lone striker Ellis Simms – the latter of whom starts his second consecutive match in place of Wright who sat out the tirp to Swansea due to injury.
Rudoni, Wright, Mason-Clark and Jahnoah Markelo provide attacking options from the bench.
City: Carl Rushworth; Milan van Ewijk, Bobby Thomas, Liam Kitching, Jay Dasilva; Frank Onyeka, Matt Grimes; Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Josh Eccles, Romain Esse; Ellis Simms.
Subs: Ben Wilson (GK), Luke Woolfenden, Kaine Kesler-Hayden, Jake Bidwell, Victor Torp, Jahnoah Markelo, Jack Rudoni, Haji Wright, Ephron Mason-Clark.
