A remarkable achievement has been marked by a Nuneaton cafe that secured the title of Warwickshire’s finest establishment. Husband and wife team Annette and Craig Strong entered the hospitality industry for the first time when Craig persuaded his partner to take a chance on a new venture by acquiring Copper Beech Kitchen in Camp Hill. In under two years, the pair were left speechless upon learning their cafe had been recognised as the county’s top choice. They claimed the prize at England’s Business Awards Show 2026 held in Birmingham and could scarcely contain their disbelief.

Annette described the experience as an incredible surprise, noting they believed they might progress when informed they had reached the final shortlist of five, though they remained uncertain about actually winning the accolade. The awards organisation dispatched an undercover assessor to evaluate the establishment without identification, making the victory even more unexpected.

The cafe received its nomination from a member of the public, though the organisers would not reveal who submitted it. The couple have their own theories, suspecting one of two individuals may have been responsible. Annette expressed immense pride in the recognition, stating they are delighted with the business and particularly fond of their patrons, many of whom are regular visitors with whom they share friendly exchanges.

Since launching in October 2024, the couple has witnessed remarkable growth in their customer base, expanding operations to serve customers six days weekly including a traditional Sunday roast offering. They attribute their success to their loyal clientele and dedicated workforce consisting of Rachel Perry, Ryan Cox, Ellen Bradley and Teresa Simms, with the prestigious award now displayed prominently within the cafe for visitors to observe.
