Fifty years later, the England Women’s side from 1973 returned to Nuneaton – a location that holds significance not just for them but for the entire history of the Lionesses. Their inaugural ‘home’ match took place at the Manor Park stadium, which was then the home of Nuneaton Boro, on 23 June 1973. The 1973 team finished with an 8-8 result, with forward Pat Firth netting three goals at just 16 years old. She was selected to reveal the plaque at the Jubilee Centre while her proud teammates cheered her on.
