Hundreds of jubilant Sky Blues fans packed Broadgate as Coventry City earned a spot in the Premier League. Supporters flooded the streets to show their delight for the team yesterday evening.
Coventry secured promotion after Bobby Thomas’ late equaliser earned a 1-1 draw at Blackburn. It marked the end of the Sky Blues’ 25-year absence from the Premier League.
Fans celebrated long into the evening, chanting and singing songs. Annette Miller said she had ‘goosebumps’ when she learned Coventry City were returning to the top flight yesterday (April 17).
Coventry last played in the Premier League in 2001 and were in the fourth tier just a few years ago. Manager Frank Lampard called the occasion ‘bigger than all of us’ and a truly special night for Coventry City.
