Doug King kept his speech to Coventry City supporters brief but packed with passion as he celebrated the club’s return to the Premier League as Championship champions. King ended years of chaos behind the scenes when he bought out Sisu to take charge as sole owner back in January 2023. He saw the team lose in the Championship play-off final then be scandalously denied a place in the FA Cup final at Wembley a year later. But now, with the CBS Arena back owned by the club, they are going back to the big time under the management of Frank Lampard. King was handed the microphone after a 3-1 win over Wrexham in front of a packed house in the final home match of a remarkable campaign. “First of all, thanks for staying off the pitch,” he said. “I want to thank my family. They’ve watched far more football than they ever thought they’d watch since we came into this project three years ago. “I’ve seen a lot of these resurrections and phoenixes from the ashes but here we are today, April 26, in our Coventry home. We are Coventry City and we are going to the Premier League. “We are back. Sky Blue army.” FOLLOW ON FACEBOOK!
