A man has been jailed after targeting a young woman and supplying her with alcohol and cocaine before sexually assaulting her in a car park. Connor Ratcliffe encountered his victim, a woman in her twenties, while she was in Warwick. The defendant, who is 30 years old, administered drugs and drink throughout the evening before carrying out what a judge called a series of predatory acts culminating in rape at the secluded car park. Ratcliffe, from Yates Avenue in Rugby, was taken into custody and faced two charges of rape along with supplying a class A controlled substance. Although he initially denied the allegations on 21 July 2023, officers stated he eventually entered a guilty plea. At Coventry Crown Court on Thursday 23 April, he received a sentence of seven and a half years for the rape and an additional six months for the drug supply, with the terms to be served at the same time. He will also be subject to indefinite registration on the Sex Offenders’ Register. Following the court hearing, Detective Constable Sacha Bury expressed that the victim had demonstrated remarkable courage throughout the process. She noted that the incident had significantly affected the woman’s life, and she hoped the knowledge that Ratcliffe is now incarcerated would offer some solace. The detective added that she hoped the conviction would give other survivors of sexual offences the assurance to come forward, knowing they would receive support and be heard. Police are urging anyone who has experienced rape or a sexual offence to contact them, where specialist officers will handle their case.
