Coventry City owner Doug King must spend big to stay in the Premier League , believes Richard Keys. Keys, the beIN Sports presenter and Sky Blues fan, also thinks King should “break the bank” to keep Carl Rushworth at the CBS Arena. Coventry are preparing for life back in the Premier League, after winning promotion from the Championship as champions. Boss Frank Lampard and his players lifted the title trophy at the CBS Arena on Sunday, with Keys saying: “What a day. What memories. “I used to think they should’ve stood that fabulous EFL trophy down when the PL was formed and everything changed. “Somehow it didn’t seem right the team winning the second tier of English football should get their hands on something so many legends had in the past. It won’t surprise you to learn I’ve changed my mind. “I hope I never see scenes like it again – because obviously I want us to survive in the big league. I’d take 17th now. “I think we’ve got some good players, but are they all good enough for the PL? Who knows? That’s part of the puzzle.” FOLLOW ON FACEBOOK! King has already spoken about Coventry’s transfer strategy this summer, vowing they will not spend ‘zillions and trillions’ on the assumption it will enhance their prospects of staying in the Premier League. But Keys believes the contrasting fortunes of Sunderland and Burnley in the top flight this season should inform King’s decision. Both Sunderland and Burnley were promoted to the Premier League last year, with the Black Cats currently in 12th place and certain to stay up and Burnley already relegated. “Owner Doug King’s choice is very simple – either spend £100m like Sunderland or nothing like Burnley. The outcome would likely be the same as it is for those two teams this season,” he said.
