An innovative evening programme is poised to introduce live performances and southern European fare to one of Coventry’s most storied locations. St Mary’s Guildhall, situated on Bayley Lane in the city centre, previously served as the administrative centre for Coventry’s ancient trade association. In recent times it has developed a standing as both a hospitality destination and tourist spot, with its 14th century vaulted chambers presenting an afternoon tea offering named Tales of Tea. The operators, No Ordinary Hospitality (NOHM), the group responsible for Coombe Abbey Hotel, are now introducing Tales After Dark – a fresh recurring evening occasion that will convert the vaulted chambers into a laid-back nighttime venue.
Tales After Dark will occur on the final Friday of every month beginning at 5pm, combining live entertainment with Mediterranean-style food and beverage choices amid the evocative environment. The regular event debuted featuring Coventry saxophonist Matthew Middleton on Friday (April 24) and will showcase a blend of jazz and modern arrangements throughout the warmer months. A selection of small-plate style meals has been designed, drawing influence from Mediterranean flavours. Choices feature Spanish cured meats with caperberries, crispy potatoes with spicy sauce, pork and beef balls, grilled cheese, as well as lighter options including marinated large olives and battered Cantabrian anchovies.
Abi Moore, Heritage and Venue Manager at No Ordinary Hospitality, explained that Tales of Tea has already demonstrated itself to be a valuable contribution to Coventry’s hospitality sector, uniting excellent cuisine within an outstanding historic setting. She stated that with Tales After Dark, the intention was to develop something offering a wholly distinct experience that feels more relaxed, more evocative and ideal for those wanting to decompress after an extended working week or seeking the ideal starting point for an evening in Coventry. The concept centres on excellent music and enabling guests to experience this remarkable space differently, with each dish crafted for communal eating to promote a social and informal approach to dining. Guests may simply arrive, find seating and appreciate the atmosphere as Tales After Dark will deliver an exceptional combination of heritage, hospitality and live performances.
