The group of Labour representatives from the local area did not join those who opposed the Prime Minister when a vote took place regarding an investigation into Sir Keir Starmer’s decision to appoint Lord Peter Mandelson. Members of Parliament gathered in the Commons chamber on Wednesday to consider a proposal that would have sent the Prime Minister to the Privileges Committee for examination. The initiative failed with 223 votes supporting it and 335 opposing it, a difference of 112 votes. None of the Labour MPs representing local constituencies chose to back the motion.
However, Zarah Sultana, who currently sits as a Your Party MP for Coventry South after previously serving as a Labour representative, did support the investigation. This occurred following her dramatic removal from parliamentary proceedings after she labelled Sir Keir Starmer a ‘bare-faced liar’ on April 20 concerning the Mandelson appointment.
The voting record for MPs from our region shows: Those voting for the motion included Zarah Sultana representing Coventry South. Those voting against included Mary Creagh for Coventry East, Taiwo Owatemi for Coventry North West, Jodie Gosling for Nuneaton, Rachel Taylor for North Warwickshire and Bedworth, Matt Western for Warwick and Leamington, and John Slinger for Rugby. No vote was recorded for Jeremy Wright representing Kenilworth and Southam.
