Frank Lampard insists he’ll be hands on in the transfer market this summer as Coventry City turn their attention to strengthening for the Premier League . The Sky Blues boss will have an impressive contacts book and intends to be pro-active when it comes to targeting new players, the planning for which will already have started by head of recruitment Dean Austin and his staff. Lampard is looking forward to his summer vacation in the sun but knows it’s going to be a busman’s holiday with his phone next to his side by the pool. FOLLOW ON FACEBOOK! My holidays are a thing but my phone is on, unfortunately, because you know that there’s work to do constantly, and I think it’s a life of a manager. “You can’t just take your leave and turn up on July 1st or whatever. So that’s the life of it and I actually quite like it that way because I like to be hands on with everything. So my part, always in this role when I’m doing it, is to try and stay very much focussed on everything, always, and still be able to jump in the pool or have a beer and stuff like that. “But you still try and stay on point and it’s a reality that the club’s got a lot of work to do because of it’s great situation in going to the Premier League. And it means that there’s a lot of work to do that we can’t sleep on. “So yeah, the work will start very soon because we all know what the challenge of promotion is to the Premier League in terms of what’s next. And then I have to broach it in the right way on and off the football pitch.” As for making use of his extensive contacts book with links in high places, not least his former club Chelsea, he said: “Well yeah, I mean my contact list might be okay. That’s fine in modern football to have a contact list and have a name or whatever or a link to something. But when you get to the bones of recruiting a player, there’s an agent, there’s a player, there are other football clubs and there’s that thing called money. “It’s in football and they’re really important and I think this football club have had a way of doing things. Of course the landscape is going to change and that’s a great thing but we have to understand the magnitude of challenges that are coming.” Every day, the CoventryLive football desk strive to deliver all manner of news, features and transfer-related stories as a part of our overall package of Coventry City content.
