Emergency crews were responding to a woodland fire in Nuneaton on Tuesday, leading to the closure of a major road.

Officers from Nuneaton were attending the B4102 Astley Lane alongside firefighters from Warwickshire after receiving emergency calls about a blaze in trees opposite Seeswood Pool. The road was shut between Arbury Road and the nearby crossroads to enable firefighters to bring the flames under control.

The affected woodland sits within the Arbury Estate. A message posted on the official Nuneaton and Bedworth Police social media account advised residents that emergency services were dealing with the incident and asked people to steer clear of the area where feasible.

Representatives from Warwickshire Police, Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Midlands Ambulance Service were approached for additional information. Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service subsequently provided a statement indicating that ambulance crews were not required at the location, though police and fire crews had answered 999 calls regarding the emergency.

Traffic monitoring indicated increasing delays around Astley Crossroads as a result of the incident. Earlier reports had noted that a section of Seeswood Road had also been shut.

The white watch unit from Nuneaton’s fire station on Newtown Road later returned to base after their involvement in the operation. At the time of reporting, one fire appliance remained at the location.

Eyewitness accounts from the area described thick smoke rising from the trees opposite Seeswood Pool, with residents along Ansley Road reporting a strong smell of smoke on the main route. The full extent of the damage had not yet been established.

Following the successful extinguishing of the fire, the road was reopened to traffic later in the day.
