Temperatures in Coventry are set to soar once again this week, leading the local authority to announce modifications to its waste collection timetable.

The area had only just adjusted to cooler conditions following a June dominated by unprecedented heat, but another spell of sweltering weather is on its way.

Meteorologists predict the city will see peak temperatures of 32C by Thursday, conditions warm enough to affect various services and infrastructure.

Waste collection is already feeling the impact.

A spokesperson for the city council confirmed on 6 July that, given the forecast of temperatures reaching 30C and above, refuse teams would begin their rounds an hour earlier to work during the cooler part of the day.

The spokesperson requested that residents place their bins out by 6am, recommending they do so the previous evening. Patience was also asked for during this period.

According to the Met Office prediction for Coventry, Tuesday will see any early morning low cloud rapidly clearing to leave a very warm day with prolonged bright sunshine and gentle breezes. Occasional fair-weather clouds will pass through at times.

Tuesday night will bring clear conditions with some cloud patches in northern areas. Light winds could lead to mist forming in isolated spots. It will remain mild with temperatures staying above the seasonal average.

Wednesday is expected to be bright and sunny throughout as high cloud moves northward. Light winds combined with intense sunshine will drive temperatures up through the day, with some areas feeling genuinely hot.

The outlook for Thursday through Saturday shows settled conditions continuing with prolonged spells of strong sunshine. Temperatures will continue to rise and it will start to feel increasingly hot. Conditions will remain dry with light winds.
