An investigation has begun after a canine was discovered secured and deserted in Leamington Spa. The animal was located in Christchurch Gardens, also called Top Park, close to the Parade.

Authorities stated a member of the public came across the pet secured yesterday afternoon (July 7). The animal has since been taken in by Warwick District Council (WDC).

When discovered, the dog was described as suffering from severe stress, overheating and fear. He was also breathing rapidly and displaying clear signs of agitation.

Officers stated it was wholly unacceptable that the dog had been left secured with no possibility of releasing himself. Anyone who identifies the animal or possesses any details is asked to contact WDC on 01926 456741.

Temperatures have climbed significantly throughout Coventry, Warwickshire and the West Midlands, peaking at 32C. Those owning pets are being alerted to the dangers of heat-related illness and advised to take additional measures.

A spokesperson for Leamington Police stated the dog appears to have been secured and left in direct sunshine with no apparent access to shade or means of escape. Fortunately, a compassionate member of the public noticed him and provided assistance.

The animal has now been placed under the care of Warwick District Council. Naturally, he remains extremely stressed, overheated and afraid.
