A Coventry City Councillor has shared his anger and issued a warning to the culprits after 20 leaking oil canisters were dumped on a quiet city road – an act labelled ‘one of the worst cases’ of fly-tipping seen in the city.
As previously reported the local council rushed to Hollyfast Lane to deal with a callous act of fly-tipping described as “industrial pollution”.
Cllr John McNicholas, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and Cohesion, visited the site on the day the incident happened. In a statement shared with CoventryLive he revealed there are also plans combat the fly-tipping that has plague this quiet road for some time.
“I’m really angry about this because as far as I’m concerned this is an example of industrial pollution,” Cllr McNicholas said. “With the help of the local community we will do everything we can to find the culprits.
“I’ve just been out to Hollyfast Lane to thank the crew for their efforts today. This is far more than fly-tipping and is one of the worst cases we have seen in the city. We are working with the Environment Agency and I want to see how we can get mobile CCTV on Hollyfast Lane. I know that local councillors over a number of years have been asking for CCTV and we need to find a long term solution.
“Our street crews have worked tirelessly in this heat by gritting the road to absorb the oil and clearing the mess so that we can assess the state of the road and make sure it is safe.
