Blackburn boss Michael O’Neill insists his side are at a “disadvantage” as they prepare to host league leaders Coventry City this weekend. Rovers are currently negotiating a gruelling fixture schedule with Friday night’s clash at Ewood Park coming as their third since last Saturday. And, to make matters worse, O’Neill has three fresh injury concerns to contend with, taking the current injury list to 13. Todd Cantwell (adductor) and Adam Forshaw (calf) were both unavailable for the 3-0 defeat at Southampton on Tuesday night as they joined the growing queue in the treatment room. Forshaw did travel and could’ve perhaps played but the manager decided not to risk losing him for a longer period. Ryan Alebiosu went off at half-time. “Forshaw and Cantwell were both injured,” O’Neill told the Lancashire Telegraph. FOLLOW ON FACEBOOK! Ryan got injured in a collision. He was struggling with his ribs and his back. We’ve just got to see. “Todd, didn’t travel. Adam travelled with us because we thought it was an outside chance of playing. This morning he was still feeling his calf. “We just felt it was too big a risk, given what lies ahead, because we could possibly jeopardise him for the rest of the season.” The other ten currently sidelined are: Lewis Miller, Sondre Tronstad, Andri Gudjohnsen, Scott Wharton, Hayden Carter, Sidnei Tavares, Augustus Kargbo, Henriksson, Matty Litherland and George Pratt. O’Neill admits the schedule has put his team at a “disadvantage” ahead of the game against his former club, Coventry . “The schedule is incredibly difficult,” he said. “Obviously, we had a tough game at the weekend at Stoke . We flew here (to Southampton) yesterday afternoon. We trained on Monday. Played the game tonight. We fly back (Weds) and then we’ll be in on Thursday to prepare and we play on Friday. “So, it’s tough against a team that’s top of the league and obviously have not had a midweek game. But that’s the schedule that we’ve been given. “I do think it disadvantages us, to be honest, given that we have four games in ten days and then we’ll not play for ten days until the final game of the season. “So, the recovery period, given where the squad is at this minute in time, is extremely challenging. But that’s out of our hands. There’s nothing we can do about that. “We just have to move forward to Friday and do everything possible to get the team ready and give ourselves a chance in the game.” Every day, the CoventryLive football desk strive to deliver all manner of news, features and transfer-related stories as a part of our overall package of Coventry City content.
