The redevelopment of Nuneaton’s former Debenham’s department store is well underway. Passers-by today (April 15) noticed that the Bridge Street side of the old store has been wrapped in hoarding.
But there is a section that remains open – close to the stretch of the River Anker.
As well as the works to create new 63 apartments within parts of the building, there are also plans to tidy up the section of the River Anker that sits within part of the site.
Tree care specialists were spotted setting up close to the area earlier this morning.
The large redevelopment project is set to last until July and will see 63 Build to Rent (BTR) apartments created with a mixture of one, two and three-bedroom homes.
There will also commercial space to ‘re-activate Bridge Street and Newdegate Street.
While the building will look different, there will be one element that locals will still be able to treasure – the famed prominent ‘JC Smiths’ facade near to the George Eliot statue.
