Big changes around section of Nuneaton railway line as works start

Trees are set to be removed close to a section of railway line in Nuneaton. They are adjacent to the railway line in Attleborough Recreation Ground.

The trees are set to be removed in a bid to address safety concerns associated with the trees’ proximity to overhead power lines and the operational railway.

“Due to the layout and historic pruning, the trees had become increasingly difficult to manage safely and sustainably,” said Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council.

The Town Hall has been working with Network Rail to tackle the issues and this has led to a new tree planting programme, away from the railway line, to replace those which are due to be taken down.

The works are being carried out in phases and phase one started at the weekend.. It is understood that the trees near to the railway line at Attleborough Recreation Ground will be removed during a planned line closure.

Then, phase 2, will include the the removal of trees alongside the railway in the adjoining Attleborough Cemetery. These are due to be removed later this year.

“The tree removal is part of a wider, long-term plan to improve public safety and to improve and secure the future tree stock within the area,” the council said.

“The council will continue to keep residents informed as the project progresses.”
