A man aged 22 from Birmingham has been jailed after covertly filming in excess of 460 males and boys inside public lavatories throughout Solihull and Birmingham, including at Grand Central station.

Troy Green was arrested in August the previous year following an incident at Birmingham Airport where another individual challenged him over suspected filming. Police carried out a search warrant at his home in Soho, Birmingham, where electronic equipment was seized.

Examination of the recovered devices revealed over 500 video clips, showing 465 separate people unaware they were being recorded inside public toilet facilities. The matter proceeded through Birmingham Crown Court, where it emerged that two of those filmed were under 18.

When questioned by police, Green claimed he visited public lavatories to hide vaping from his relatives. However, inquiries showed he had also employed Snapchat to contact youngsters, encouraging them to perform improper dares involving indecent exposure.

Even as further evidence emerged, Green continued to deny the accusations, maintaining that certain phones visible in the recordings were not his property.

On April 15 at Birmingham Crown Court, Green entered guilty pleas to numerous counts and was sentenced to 22 months imprisonment.

Detective Constable Stephen Dunford of West Midlands Police stated that throughout multiple interviews, Green persisted in rejecting the accusations despite substantial evidence, only accepting accountability when additional proof appeared. Such criminal acts receive the highest level of concern, and members of the public are encouraged to report any dubious behaviour, as it may occasionally indicate more serious criminal conduct.
