Scottish music legends Wet Wet Wet are set to bring their 40th anniversary celebrations to Coventry, marking four decades since their breakthrough record first hit the charts.
The pop-rock group has confirmed a comprehensive UK tour beginning in 2027, with the Warwickshire venue hosting the first Midlands performance on Monday, February 15. This appearance will constitute the seventh show of their extensive 40-gig tour.
Popped In Souled Out, which arrived in 1987, propelled the Dumfries-based quartet onto the international stage. The collection topped the British album rankings and spawned successful singles including Wishing I Was Lucky, Sweet Little Mystery, Angel Eyes and Temptation. The record achieved multi-platinum certification domestically while also charting in America, spending over 70 weeks on UK shelves. This early success paved the way for subsequent chart-topping releases such as With A Little Help From My Friends, Goodnight Girl and their widely-recognised rendition of The Troggs’ 1960s classic Love Is All Around.
Across two substantial touring legs in February and October 2027, the ensemble will present material from the debut record alongside other popular tracks from their extensive catalogue. The concerts will honour both the band’s origins and their subsequent achievements.
The current lineup consists of original member Graeme Clark, veteran guitarist Graeme Duffin and frontman Kevin Simm, who continue to perform the compositions that launched their career while connecting with fresh generations of listeners.
Before the anniversary shows, Wet Wet Wet will undertake their first European headline run in more than 25 years during May 2026, followed by a series of stripped-back acoustic performances across Britain.
An array of supporting acts including Roachford, Nick Heyward, Rebecca Ferguson, Heather Small, Johnny Hates Jazz, The Christians and The South will appear at various tour dates.
Graeme Clark reflected on the milestone, noting that he was merely a young man when recording the debut album and that those compositions have developed their own identity over the past four decades. He explained that the tour represents an opportunity to commemorate the starting point while acknowledging the journey that followed, suggesting it would feel like revisiting those initial days but enriched by decades of expertise and accompanied by supporters who have remained loyal through every development.
Kevin Simm expressed enthusiasm about returning to the road in 2027 to mark the album’s 40th anniversary, describing it as a privilege to perform these enduring compositions across numerous British venues for the band’s devoted audience.
Graeme Duffin admitted he would have been astounded four decades ago to learn that the tracks from Popped In Souled Out would maintain such popularity, and that he would still be playing them with the group. He anticipated that audiences would thoroughly enjoy the concerts as much as the musicians themselves when they resume touring the following year.
