A commerce professional has been imprisoned for sexually assaulting a prostitute at a parking facility in the West Midlands area, in an incident detectives have characterised as among the most savage offences they have dealt with during their careers.

Simon Tang received a twelve-and-a-half-year custodial sentence at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday, March 23, after the attack occurred near parking premises on Birmingham Street in Walsall on May 5 last year.

The 56-year-old repeatedly struck the woman with a baseball bat he retrieved from the boot of his vehicle, causing bruising to her head and legs.

The complainant showed considerable courage by approaching police to disclose the offence, according to Birmingham Live.

Tang, who lives on Weoley Castle Road in Birmingham, was found guilty of two counts of rape, possessing an offensive weapon, and inflicting actual bodily harm.

Alongside the sentence delivered on Monday, which encompasses an extended licence period, Tang will additionally be entered onto the Sexual Offenders Register indefinitely.

Following the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Morgan Colley, a member of the investigative unit, expressed that in his time working in rape and serious sexual offences, this case ranks among the most violent he has ever witnessed. He explained that the complainant, who was working as a sex worker, demonstrated that allegations of abuse are treated with utmost seriousness and that justice is pursued with determination to deliver the optimal result. He noted that she showed exceptional fortitude throughout the proceedings, that the court process was demanding for her, yet her valour was unmistakable, and that the offender is now serving a substantial period of incarceration.
