Flames engulfed a Coventry garden after a large fire broke out yesterday evening (August 2). It happened just after 8.15pm on George Robertson Close in Binley.

Crews from Coventry and Binley arrived to find a fire in the rear garden of a property on George Robertson Close. It is believed to have started accidentally and spread to the door and window fascias, as well as ivy and fencing.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using hose reel jets. Crews remained at the scene while electricity and gas supplies were isolated.

No injuries were reported. Crews carried out checks using thermal imaging cameras and confirmed no hotspots remained this morning.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: “We responded to George Robertson Close in Coventry shortly after 8.15pm on Sunday. Two fire engines and a 4×4 Brigade Response Vehicle (BRV) from Binley and Coventry attended, arriving to find a fire in the rear garden of a property, which is believed to have started accidentally.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to extinguish the fire. We remained in attendance while the electricity and gas supplies to the property were isolated.

“We carried out thorough checks of neighbouring properties and the affected area using thermal imaging cameras. We revisited the property again this morning, confirming no hotspots remained.”
