Several motorists were left stranded after traffic officers in Warwickshire took possession of their vehicles. One such car was a green Suzuki intercepted by Warwickshire Police’s Operational Patrol Unit on Siskin Drive. Officers established that the motorist possessed only a provisional licence rather than a full UK driving licence, resulting in the car being confiscated and the individual facing court proceedings.
A Mazda was halted close to the Leopard Pub in Bishops Tatchbrook after officers recorded it travelling at approximately 30mph in an area with a 50mph limit. The vehicle’s registered keeper possessed only a UK provisional licence but was not the one operating the car at the time. Officers confirmed the driver was also using a UK provisional licence without appropriate insurance coverage. The Mazda was taken into custody and the driver referred to court.
A silver Toyota Yaris was intercepted on the M6 northbound carriageway, where checks showed the driver did not hold a full UK driving licence. In Rugby, officers stopped a grey Ford Fiesta on Hillmorton Road and discovered it had no insurance, road tax or valid MOT certificate. The vehicle was seized and the driver ordered to appear in court.
Officers from the unit also pulled over a Peugeot 3008 on London Road near Toll bar island. The vehicle was insured and registered to a woman, with a man at the wheel. Checks established the man was a disqualified driver without insurance to operate the car. The vehicle was seized and the driver reported for the offences.
On Stratford Road in Warwick, officers took possession of a silver Corsa. The car had exited a petrol station with no lights illuminated, then halted and waited for the police vehicle to pass before continuing its journey. When stopped, the driver acknowledged possessing no licence, insurance or MOT for the vehicle. The car was also declared off road.
A white van was intercepted in Nuneaton and investigations revealed the insurance policy was fraudulent, with cover extending to Inverness despite the vehicle being kept and used in Birmingham. The van also had an expired MOT. It was removed from the road and the driver reported to court.
